Strange Thing: Resonance Women’s Chorus

Resonance Women’s Chorus will present Strange Thing at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 10 and Saturday, April 17, at the First United Methodist Church, 1421 Spruce St., Boulder. A special children’s concert version of the concert will be performed on Saturday, April 17 at 3:00 p.m.

Strange Thing is an exuberant spring concert full of big sound, humor, and joyful energy. Musical selections include the premiere of Gary Grundei’s Strange Thing, a setting of Issa’s haiku: “To be
alive:/what a strange thing!/In cherry blossom shade.” Also on the program are Joan Szymko’s setting of text by Audre Lorde (“When I dare…”), She Who Makes Her Meaning Clear; Hilliard and Boresi’s
Madrigals for the Information Age; Karl Jenkins’ Adiemus; and works by Rosephanye Powell, Gwyneth Walker, Carole King, Malcolm Dalglish, Beethoven’s Wig, and the Isely Brothers.

The children’s concert version of the program is a one-hour performance including selections from the evening program, spiced with additional material to create an interactive and “kid-friendly” version of the concert. Children of all ages are welcome.

Tickets for the evening performances are $15 for general admission and $10 for seniors and children (65 and over, 16 and under). They can be purchased through Brown Paper Tickets at brownpapertickets.com/event/100801 or 1-800-838-3006; at Boulder Body Wear, 2660 Canyon Blvd. in Boulder; or at the door.

The children’s concert is free for children 12 and under (no ticket needed). $10 tickets for ages 13 and up are available at the door, or through the same outlets as the evening program.
